BigStuf Beach Camps: not just for churches

BigStuf welcomes all groups, not just church-affiliated, for a transformative camp experience focused on spiritual growth and community building.

BigStuf Camps in Panama City Beach has long been recognized for its powerful impact on youth groups, offering a space where spiritual growth and meaningful connections flourish. However, BigStuf's reach extends beyond church-affiliated groups; it welcomes any gathering of young people, including friends and community organizations. With a simple requirement of one adult leader over 21 for every four campers, groups can experience BigStuf in a way that’s tailored to their dynamics and needs. Whether you’re part of a formal youth ministry or a casual group of friends, BigStuf offers an environment that is perfect for spiritual and relational growth.

Why BigStuf is Perfect for Groups of All Kinds

BigStuf is designed with flexibility in mind. While the main sessions are packed with worship, speakers, and high-energy activities, what happens outside those sessions is entirely up to you. Small groups, free time, and other activities are completely customizable, allowing each group to create a camp experience that fits their unique dynamic. Whether your group prefers deep, reflective discussions or beach volleyball and free time by the ocean, BigStuf gives you the freedom to make camp your own.

The camp experience is also centered around community and group growth. BigStuf firmly believes that students attending camp as part of a group—whether it's a formal church youth group or simply a few friends—can strengthen their relationships and carry that bond home. By experiencing worship and learning together, students not only grow in their faith but also build lasting connections that will support them throughout the year.

A Story of Impact: How Independent Groups Thrive at BigStuf

One powerful example of the life-changing impact BigStuf can have on independent groups comes from Amy Cooper, founder of "The Walk" youth group. Over 20 years ago, she and her husband, Chris, were asked to take a small group of students from their church to BigStuf, despite not having any youth ministry experience. They said yes, and that decision changed their lives forever.

"We could have never anticipated what God had planned from just being willing and obedient," Amy recalls. After that week at BigStuf, Chris and Amy felt called to continue leading youth, even though their group wasn’t officially affiliated with a church. Their ministry grew, eventually becoming a non-profit organization that now serves around 200 students monthly, all without formal ties to a specific church.

“We’ve had hundreds of students come to know Christ during those weeks, and countless others have grown in their relationship with Him,” Amy explains. The Walk, despite being independent, has thrived at BigStuf, bringing an average of 100 students each year for two decades. For the Coopers' ministry, one of the key benefits of BigStuf is the relationships they build with other group leaders and staff at the camp. "BigStuf gives us relationships, encouragement, teaching, and resources that we wouldn’t otherwise have since we’re not part of a church," Amy shares. These connections have been crucial for their ministry, offering guidance and support as they continue to lead their ever-growing group.

Creating a Lasting Impact

For The Walk, BigStuf has become one of the most anticipated events of the year. Many students have found Christ at camp, while others have deepened their faith in ways they never expected. The camp’s Leader Lab has also been an incredible opportunity for student leaders, allowing them to serve, teach, and mentor younger students, fostering a community that supports one another both at camp and beyond.

“It’s helped them build a community that sustains them after the emotional highs of camp fade. It reminds them that there are thousands of other young people out there also pursuing Christ," Amy says.

Bringing BigStuf Home

At the end of the week, the goal is for students and leaders to leave camp feeling not only refreshed but also equipped to carry their faith into everyday life. “It was the catalyst that showed us how He wanted to use our lives, our time, our resources, and our hearts as a couple and as a family for His glory. The greatest blessing of it all has been the incomparable joy of watching God forever change the lives of others,” Amy says. For the Coopers and their students, BigStuf has become much more than just a summer camp—it’s a foundational part of their ministry.

Whether you’re part of a church or gathering a small group of friends, BigStuf is open to everyone. Its flexible structure, welcoming environment, and focus on community make it an ideal space for any group seeking to deepen their relationships with each other and with Christ.

So, if you’re not connected to a church but still want to experience all that BigStuf has to offer, grab four friends and make it happen. BigStuf promises an unforgettable week that will create lasting memories and profound spiritual growth.
